Rainbow Wahine
swimming team inks 7

The next Hawaii swim class features an American Blue Chip Swimmer, a Swedish national champion, and a Chinese National diver.

Hawaii coach Mike Anderson's second recruiting class consists of six freshmen and a sophomore. Olympic Trial qualifier Nicole Mackey of Newport Harbor High (Calif.) is competing in the World Student Games in Daegu, South Korea, this summer before joining the Wahine in the fall. Mackey swims the 200 and 400 individual medleys.

Mia Broden of Falun, Sweden, is the Swedish national champion in the 200-meter butterfly and Qiongjie Huang is a sophomore transferring from the Institute of Electronics Engineering in China to join the diving team. Huang won't arrive until January 2004 because the SARS epidemic has led China to cancel all TOEFL tests until the fall.

The Rainbow Wahine added two Southern California freestyle sprinters in Mary Bressler and Ashlee Henson. Mackinzie Moore is a two-time Washington state champion in the 500 freestyle, while Kelly Blakemore of Mountain View, Calif., adds depth to the Hawaii backstrokers.
