Get paid for going crazy
at Pipeline Cafe

IT'S GOING TO be pretty crazy at Pipeline Cafe on Wednesday nights all summer long once tapings for "No Shame: The Search for Hawaii's Craziest Person" get started next week.

The premise is simple: How nuts can you get for a shot at $5,000? For the first 10 weeks of tapings, six contestants will try to outdo each other for a shot at the semifinals during week 11. The top five semifinalists will then advance to finals on Aug. 13. The shows will air at 10 p.m. Sunday nights starting June 8 on KFVE.

And if watching local people act silly isn't enough entertainment in itself, each Wednesday night "No Shame" taping is also a concert of sorts -- this Wednesday, Epic Session, Thick Tubes and Natural Vibrations will perform, with other acts to follow in the coming weeks. Doors open at 9 p.m. for the 18-and-over crowd, and show producers will be looking for contestants in the club as well. E-mail noshametv@yahoo.com if you want to participate, or just head down to Pipeline ...

ANOTHER BLOCK party to let you know about: In celebration of this year's Na Hoku Hanohano Award nominees, a "Hoku Block Party" is scheduled for 6 to 10 p.m. tomorrow on the corner of Nuuanu Avenue and Merchant Street (near Murphy's Bar and Grill).

Scheduled to perform on two stages at the block party are Ale'a, Believe, O'Brien Eselu, Raiatea Helm, Kahiau, Kapena, Na Palapalai, Sean Na'auao, O-Shen and Jake Shimabukuro. Best thing about this party? It's free to get in ...

GET SOME culture this weekend and head over to the Waikiki Shell for the "Hawaiian Bash" on Saturday night, featuring a 45-minute "dance spectacular" with Kumu Hula Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu and dancers from the Academy of Hawaiian Arts. Kahua, Maunalua and others will join Ho'omalu for a evening of traditional and contemporary Hawaiian music from 6 to 10 p.m.

Tickets for the "Hawaiian Bash" start at $10; call 526-4400 to order by phone ...

CONGRATS TO 102.7 Da Bomb morning show co-host and stand-up comedian Paul Ogata. He'll be the first Hawaii comedian to headline at the Laugh Factory in the Queen Kapiolani Hotel since its inception earlier this year. Performances are scheduled for 8 p.m. tonight through Sunday, and kamaaina prices have recently dropped to $10 per person, so it might be time to head into Waikiki for some laughs if you haven't gone already. Call 931-4490 ...
