Students show stuff

The Radisson Waikiki Prince Kuhio Hotel is hosting Tuesday evening cooking demonstrations featuring culinary students from Kapiolani Community College.

The free sessions are held from 5 to 6 p.m. in the hotel's lobby.

The students' supervisor, chef-instructor Dan Swift, says the demonstrations let them take what they've learned outside the classroom, allowing them to refine their skills and grow familiar with a hotel setting.

Kapiolani Community College is offering a five-day basic-training camp for those who've never cooked before, but might have to soon. Cooking Camp is aimed at students going away to school and others age 16 to 21 who find themselves lost in the kitchen.

The class runs 3 to 6 p.m. June 9 to 13 and costs $475. It covers knife skills and basic cutting; preparation of soups, salads, pastas and stews; and basic food survival. Tuition includes a knife set and bag, chef jacket, chef hat, all food and supplies. Call 734-9211.
