Isle troops give computers
to Molokai schools

Soldiers from Schofield Barracks are scheduled to deliver 35 surplus computers to two public schools on Molokai tomorrow, the Department of Education announced.

Molokai High and Intermediate school will get 20 computers, and 15 will go to Kaunakakai Elementary School, complete with monitors, keyboards and speakers and with one laser printer for each school, the DOE said.

The donation is being made under a Department of Defense program for disposition of surplus computer equipment.

"We have chosen Molokai so we can combine a great training opportunity while reaching out to one of our neighboring islands," said 1st Lt. Randy Jones of Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 125th Finance Battalion.

"It is a win-win situation for both the DOD and the DOE," he said.

The Hawaii Army National Guard will help load the equipment on a CH-147 Army helicopter at Wheeler field for the flight to Molokai. The army team will take the computers to the schools on Tuesday.
