Asashoryu undefeated
with 5 wrestlers 1 loss out


TOKYO >> Yokozuna Asashoryu started his fifth straight tournament at 6-0, knocking Takamisakari out at the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament today.

Asashoryu is the lone undefeated wrestler, but five contenders have only lost once. Asashoryu will take on Tamanoshima next. He has beaten Tamanoshima four times in their seven meetings, including the last two.

Sitting at 5-1 are Chiyotaikai, Dejima, Wakanosato, Jumonji and Buyuzan.

Wakanosato, Buyuzan and Jumonji take on 4-2 wrestlers.

Yokozuna Musashimaru, or Hawaii's Fiamalu Penitani, has yet to recover from surgery on his left wrist and is absent for the fourth straight meet.

Asashoryu, who is from Mongolia, is seeking to win his third consecutive tournament.
