Tailgate dishes wanted

Watermark Publishing is collecting tailgating recipes for a cookbook to be published this summer, "The Hawai'i Tailgate Party Cookbook," by Jo McGarry.

Enter a recipe and compete for a spot in the cookbook and the top prize of a Weber gas grill. The top three entrants will cook with celebrity chefs at an Aloha Stadium tailgate party.

Entries must be original dishes suitable for grilling. Categories are pupu, meats, fish, poultry, salads, soups and desserts. Entry period is Monday to May 30. E-mail recipes to jmcgarry@starbulletin.com.

Learn something new

Chinese Tea Tasting: Leonard Young teaches a five-part series on Chinese tea, on Thursdays beginning May 29. Learn about variations in teas, sipping and how to use aroma cups and a gaiwan. Course concludes with an evening of Gongfu tea service. Classes run 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $210 and students will need to purchase utensils and a small quantity of tea. Call 734-9211.

Spicy Hot Asian Dishes -- Cool Asian Drinks: Walter Rhee teaches the class, 6:30 to 9 p.m. May 22. Cost is $45. Register on-line at www.outreach.hawaii.edu/Programs/HL1-STYLE.htm or call 956-5666.

The Lyon Arboretum offers these classes. Cost is $28; $25 for arboretum members. All classes run 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Call 988-0456.
