Sing Chow top freshman
Hawaii-Hilo pitcher Leo Sing Chow was named the Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Year, one of five Vulcans earning first-team softball honors.
Hawaii Pacific had three players on the first team and two on the second team. BYU-Hawaii had three named to the second team.
Sing Chow led the PacWest with a 0.66 ERA, posting a 14-3 record and holding opposing batters to a .159 batting average.
Vulcan catcher Kayla Kahuli, shortstop Nancy Vega, first baseman Leinani Hashida and outfielder Wendy Layton also earned first-team all-conference honors.
HPU players named to the first team were first baseman Kim Fukumoto, utility Jamie Reyes and infielder Holly Garcia.

13 named to all-academic team: Hawaii Division II schools dominated the Pacific West Conference all-academic softball team announced yesterday, with 13 players chosen for the 18-member squad.
Named to the team from HPU were Kim Fukumoto, Kristin Fujii, Alisa Iloreta, Mallory Anderson and Anuhea Diamond.
BYUH selections were Michelle Gibson, Heather Murray and Jill Margetts. Shanelle Yamane, Amber Bareswill, Puaolena Reis and Harmonie Martinez made it from Chaminade. Tara Martinez was Hilo's lone representative.
Vulcans sign five: Hawaii-Hilo coach Callen Perreira announced the addition of five spring signees to next year's incoming softball class.
Infielders Haunani Hassenritter of Hilo and Jeani Jadlot of Mesa, Ariz., outfielders Chelsea Osborne of Temecula Valley, Calif., and Laura Kimborowicz of Anaheim and pitcher/infielder Miki Asamura of Mililani all committed to the Vulcans.
Toia last recruit for Wahine basketball
The Hawaii women's basketball team completed its recruiting class with the signing of one of the best high school players in Utah.
Alofa Toia, a 6-foot-3 post player from Sandy, Utah, led Brighton High to this year's state championship, averaging 12 points, nine rebounds and 10 blocks per game.
"Alofa is one of the top players we saw in the summer tournaments last year," Wahine coach Vince Goo said. "She's a dominant post player -- very strong, athletic and physical. She's going to be a banger for us inside."
Also an All-Utah volleyball player, Toia rounds out what UH is calling the deepest class in school history.
Last speed clinics set for this weekend
The final installments of the Hawaii Speed and Quickness Clinic for the spring are this weekend.
UH football defensive backs coach Rich Miano and strength and conditioning coach Mel deLaura and Maj. Trey Johnson of the UH Army ROTC unit administer the clinic.
The sessions are Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.-noon for ages 8-12 and 2:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. for ages 13 and up. The fee is $10. For details, call 671-3812.
