3 local athletes named
to USA junior luge team

Honolulu's Trevor Wold and Rachel Kwak, and David Chang from Kailua-Kona have been named to the 32-member USA Luge Fall 2003 junior development team and will participate in three camps this summer at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y.

The three were among the nearly 100 youngsters, ages 10-12, who participated in the Verizon-USA Luge Slider Search clinic last September at Koko Head District Park. The trio then went to a week-long screening camp in January at Lake Placid where they were introduced to snow for the first time and took their first luge runs.

Chang, Wold and Kwak will continue their training this coming winter at the 2002 Olympic luge course in Park City, Utah.
