[ HAWAII'S SCHOOLS ]

Campus generates
an aura of excellence

On the slopes of Haleakala on Maui lies a small college preparatory school that exudes the aloha spirit. If you ask any Maui resident to comment on the small school, they will undoubtedly talk about Seabury Hall with much enthusiasm.

A sense of energy is palpable when you visit the campus and talk to the students who are glad to be here. They will tell you about the rigorous but rewarding academics, the wonderful creative arts programs and the dedicated student leadership that make this school a great place to be.

Students can nurture their diverse personalities with the school's academic offerings. The college preparatory curriculum, paired with a nationally recognized faculty, demonstrates the excellence that pervades this campus.

When students have free time, Seabury provides numerous extracurricular activities as well. Community service projects including the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, feeding the homeless, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Holiday Joys, Camp Imua, Habitat for Humanity and Kids Helping Kids are very popular.

The school also has an outstanding Student Activities Program where a weekend function is available all Upper School students, those in grades 9 through 12. Past events have included boat cruises, sunset trips to Haleakala Crater, movie nights and ice cream parties.

The school's arts center offers classes like printmaking, advanced design, sculpture and Advanced Placement Art. Many students participate in Honors Choir, band, jazz and chamber music and dance.

The dance department teaches everything from ballet to hip-hop to interpretive dance. In the Performing Arts theater, the students star in plays, musicals, student-written and directed "One Acts," and dance ensembles. Students are encouraged to take on multiple roles, and with this confidence they ascend to the top and continue to excel.

Students are faced with the challenge of difficult academics, diverse activities and a continuous networking of creative arts, yet they seem to manage a life for themselves that should be commended.
