Police Chief Lee Donohue, above left, was hugged yesterday by Lt. Robert Steiner Jr., who was presented with the Warrior Gold Medal of Valor. Steiner lost a left finger from a shotgun blast during an April 2001 Waipio incident in which he, Lt. Curtiss Loui and Sgt. Aaron Bernal apprehended suspects in a stolen van.

Deborah Santos, right, and her aunt Annie Davis showed off Santos' lei before she entered it in today's lei contest at Kapiolani Park. Santos said she picked the ohia flowers last night in her garden and stayed up all night making it. This is the first time she has entered the contest.
