Wahine split with SJSU
in final home games

The winning streak stopped at 11.

Hawaii (32-17, 13-3) split a WAC softball doubleheader with San Jose State (22-33, 4-10) yesterday, shutting out the Spartans 4-0 in the opener, but surrendered the winning run in the top of the eighth in the nightcap for a 2-1 loss.

Tracie Uchima had three hits and scored twice in the first game, while Melissa Coogan upped her pitching record to 26-9 in striking out five in the win.

Stacey Porter hit her 12th homer of the season, a two-run shot in the fifth inning. Senior Kate Judd added a solo home run.

In the second game, Shannon Tabion (5-7) held the Spartans to four hits, but Becca Baldrige's two-out solo home run proved to be the game-winner.

Porter's 13th homer was Hawaii's first hit and produced its only run. The Wahine would add seven more hits, but couldn't cross home plate.

Trisha Ramos went 3-for-3 in her final home game.

UH leads the WAC heading into next week's road games at Centenary and Louisiana Tech.

Hilo splits: The UH-Hilo softball team (28-19, 12-8 PacWest) got a measure of revenge against Montana State-Billings (15-17, 6-10) yesterday, beating the Yellow Jackets 14-2 before losing 8-1.

The loss was the Vulcans' last conference game of the season, and they play Sacramento State tomorrow to finish the schedule. The Vulcans were on the cusp of the regional before losing to the Yellow Jackets. The loss is expected to drop them out of contention.

Leo Sing Chow won the first game thanks to a 20-hit effort from the offense, but Sarah Steele dropped the second when Billings' Christy Wankel hit a home run to cap off a six run fourth inning.
