>> With the Carolina Mudcats leading Wednesday's Southern League game 18-2 entering the ninth inning, Greenville Braves manager Brian Snitker wasn't about to burn any more pitches in his bullpen, so he called on Keoni DeRenne (Iolani, Arizona) for an inning of relief. DeRenne gave up two hits, but one was a two-run homer. He walked one and was 1-for-3 at the plate as the third baseman before moving to the mound.

>> That same night, Kaulana Kuhaulua (Waianae, Long Beach St.), an infielder who also has played some left field., pitched a perfect ninth inning in Quad City's 10-6 loss to Burlington in the Midwest League.

>> Rodney Choy Foo (Kailua), who has played second and third base this year, leads the Carolina League with a .417 batting average.

>> Right-hander Jeff Coleman (Hawaii) came off the disabled list this week and struck out two in one inning of shutout relief in his first appearance of the year.

>> Center fielder Bronson Sardinha (Kamehameha), age 19, was named the best teenage prospect in the New York Yankees organization in a recent issue of Baseball America.
