Seasiders sweep PacWest
tennis titles against HPU

BILLINGS, MT >> The Brigham Young-Hawaii women's tennis team was in top form yesterday as the Seasiders cruised to a 7-0 win over Hawaii Pacific to win the Pacific West Conference title.

In the consolation match, Hawaii-Hilo easily handled Chaminade 5-0 as Mai Fujii and Krystal Hangai each posted 6-0, 6-0 singles victories.

Seasiders men win: The BYU-Hawaii men's tennis team defeated defending PacWest champion Hawaii Pacific 6-1 to capture the 2003 PacWest title.

Jan Krejci needed three sets to defeat HPU's Mikeal Maatta, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2.

In the consolation match, Hawaii-Hilo dispatched Western New Mexico 5-0. MSU-Billings finished fifth with a 5-1 win over Chaminade.

Wahine edge Spartans: The Hawaii women's tennis team beat San Jose State 4-1 in a match shortened by bad weather at Reno, Nev., yesterday.

Stacy Hakikawa, Lauren Fitzgerald and Mio Fukushima each won both their singles and double matches for UH.

Cavanaugh, Viloria on QB Club agenda

Hawaii offensive line coach Mike Cavanaugh will join flyweight Brian Viloria and promoter Tom Moffatt at tomorrow's meeting of the Honolulu Quarterback Club.

Sherrie Faldo of the state champion Moanalua cheerleading team will also be on hand.

Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. at the Pagoda restaurant with the program beginning at noon.

Hawaii slips past San Jose in water polo

SAN JOSE, Calif. >> Kristy Bagnell scored with 23 seconds remaining to lift the Hawaii water polo team to a 6-5 win over San Jose State yesterday.

It was the Wahine's fifth consecutive win and improved their record to 10-11, 4-5 in the MPSF.

Wahine shut down Wolf Pack in WAC

Melissa Coogan threw her third straight complete game and Shannon Tabion followed with a three-hitter as Hawaii swept Nevada 5-1 and 2-1 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium yesterday.

Tracie Uchima and and Trisha Ramos each had three hits for the Wahine, who improved to 24-16, 5-2 in the WAC.

Kawamura lifts way to state title

Gary Kawamura lifted 176 pounds in the snatch and 220 in the clean and jerk to win the 136 pound masters division at the Hawaii State Weightlifting Championships yesterday.

Chani Matsui, Clayton Makiya, David Isaacs, Chris Kidawski and Darren DeMello also won titles.

Grand Canyon slams Hawaii Pacific

Chris Rock hit a pair of home runs to help the Grand Canyon baseball team register a 17-6 win over Hawaii Pacific at Hans L'Orange yesterday.

HPU pitcher Shawn Paiva gave up 11 runs in the seventh inning to take the loss.
