Mary D. Ah Sam, 97, of Wailuku, a retired teacher, died Tuesday in Hale Makua-Wailuku. She was born in Wailuku. She is survived by sisters Nancy Hull and Dorothy Medieros, and brother Lawrence Doong. Jennie "Aunty Jennie" Kaohuaaiona'alii Stewart Carmack, 79, of Waikoloa, Hawaii, a retired Department of Defense civil service worker, died Friday at home. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband George; sons Jerry D.K., C. Dee Ka'ala and Keith Kilauea; sisters Nora Coleman, Julie Williams and Nellie Johnson; and five grandchildren. Aisya Marie Torres Desierto, infant daughter of Christopher and Ann Marie, of Wailuku, died March 31 in Maui Memorial Medical Center. She was born in Wailuku. She is also survived by grandparents Mauro and Delma Torres and Felix and Remedios Desierto; and great-grandparents Isabelo and Aurelia Ubaldo, Magdalena Torres, Dionisio and Felicidad Dagdag, and Trinidad Desierto. Ernest Diama, 71, of Hilo, a U.S. Army corporal, died March 27 in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Pepeekeo, Hawaii. He is survived by brothers Herbert and Benjamin; and sisters Winnie Campbell, Alfreda Jitchaku, Catherine Campainha and Carol D. Brown. Services held.

Robert Kehualani "Bob" Douglas, 78, of Calif., a retired coach at Kamehameha Schools and in California and a World War II Army veteran, died Jan. 23. He was born in Hilo. He is survived by wife Jody, son Tad and two grandchildren. Services were held.

Silveria Abad Foronda, 90, of Honolulu, a retired Dole Pineapple Cannery employee, died April 1 in Kuakini Medical Center. She was born in San Esteban, Ilocos Sur, the Philippines. She is survived by sons Rene, Charles and Kenneth; and six grandchildren. Services: 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mililani Downtown Mortuary. Thomas Murphy Hale, 78, of Vallejo, Calif., formerly of Hawaii, a retired state Department of Education administrator and World War II U.S. Marine veteran, died March 24 at home. He was born in Canton, Ohio. He is survived by wife Joan, son George, daughter Jane Bargiel, brother James, sisters Patricia McMichael and Barbara Jackson, and five grandchildren. Henry H. Herrick, 91, of Foster City, Calif., died Feb. 11, 2003, and his wife, Julie Bellinger Herrick, 84, also of Foster City, died Jan. 24, 1997. Both were born in Honolulu. Fujiko Higa, 79, of Wailuku, a Wailuku Sugar Co. lab worker and Valley Hardware employee, died Thursday at Hale Makua, Kahului. She was born in Waikapu, Maui. She is survived by husband Takeo; sons Glen, Craig, Aaron and Eric; brothers Sozen Yogi and Jinsei, Jintoku, Jinsuke and Charles Miyashiro; sister Fumiko Uyehara; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Hiroshi Hino, 69, of Honolulu, formerly of Kauai, a retired U.S. Army Korean and Vietnam War veteran, died March 30 in Tripler Army Medical Center. He was born on Kauai. Hatsuye Kakazu, 81, of Honolulu, a homemaker, died April 2 in Hale Nani Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She was born in Waiakea, Hawaii.
