>> Takashi Nishii has been named president of of Princeville Corp. He was executive vice president of the company from 1990 to 1998. Most recently, Nishii was president of Suntory International Corp., based in New York City. At Princeville Corp. he replaced Shiro Yasuno, who has retired but remains an advisor to the firm's board of directors. Princeville Corp. is a resort development and real estate sales company owned by Japan-based Suntory Ltd., Mitsui & Co. Ltd., and Nippon Shinpan & Co. Ltd.

>> The Hawaii Centers for independent Living has appointed Patricia Lockwood as executive director. Lockwood has more than 20 years of experience working with the disabled, most recently as executive director of an independent living program encompassing 17 counties in Montana.

>> Robert Pennybacker, owner of the recently formed Pennybacker Creative LLC, has partnered with Emme Inc. to co-produce a weekly lifestyle wellness show called "Emme's Island Living," slated for Saturdays beginning April 19 on KGMB 9. He has 22 years of experience in Hawaii television, most recently as director of marketing for KHON FOX 2. Also at Emme Inc., Kim Miyasaki Lee has been hired as producer and production manager. She has more than nine years of television experience, most recently as a certified trainer for Avid Technology in New York City.

>> Avalon Development & Consulting has named Cyrus Chen real estate analyst. He recently worked for Lesher, Chee, Stadlbauer Inc. as an appraiser and real estate consultant.

>> First Hawaiian Bank recently appointed Joy P. Cabildo to vice president of the asset lending department; Cherise M. Lemoine to assistant vice president of the advertising department; Douglas M. Sakamoto to assistant vice president of the transaction management department; Sarah T. Canto to Kahului branch service manager; Barbara E. Lum to Kapolei branch manager; Teresita S. Powers to employee benefits officer of the trust employee benefits Department; and Trong Son to personal banking officer for the Kailua branch.

PROMOTIONS

>> The Gas Co. has promoted the following branch managers: Marvin G. Min, West Hawaii (Kona), has been with the company more than 17 years; Lance Lam, East Hawaii (Hilo), has been with the company for 24 years; Mus Demirbag, Maui County, has been with the company since 1994.

>> Island Insurance Cos. has promoted Lynne Nishiura to vice president of human resources from assistant vice president and director of human resources. Nishiura will oversee employee issues and consult with the firm's board. Also at Island Insurance, Joan E. Mendoza was promoted to assistant underwriter in the commercial insurance division. She was formerly a commercial lines senior rater and has been with the company since 1989. And Patricia Pei has been promoted to entry underwriter in the personal insurance division. She was formerly a data entry clerk in that department.

ON THE BOARD

>> Richard E. Meiers has been named by the American College of Healthcare Executives to serve as regent for Hawaii and Guam. Meiers is president and chief executive officer of the Healthcare Association of Hawaii. The college is an international professional society of nearly 30,000 healthcare executives.

>> Wendy Lam, director of the Hawaii Pacific University Travel Industry Management program, was recently elected secretary of the Hawaii Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association board of directors. She has more than 20 years experience in food manufacturing and retailing.

RECOGNITION

>> The Business Advisory Council of the National Republican Congressional Committee in Washington D.C. has selected J.W.A. "Doc" Buyers as the Hawaii Businessman of the Year. Buyers, chairman of C. Brewer & Company Ltd., received the award because of his commitment to the council.

>> Hawaii Women Lawyers has given Shelby Anne Floyd of Aslton Hunt Floyd & Ing its Lifetime Achievement Award. She was selected for her work for the rights of children and the disenfranchised in Hawaii. She began her career with the Legal Aid Society of Hawaii in 1976.

>>The Punahele Chapter of the American Business Women's Association presented the Woman of the Year Award 2003 to Esther Crandall for 28 years of work with the chapter.

>>Compadres Bar & Grill in Ward Center has inducted community leader Vik Watumull into its "Wall of Fame" in recognition of his eight years as chairman of the Susan G. Komen Hawaii Race for the Cure, which raises funds for the fight against breast cancer.

>>Budget Car Sales-Hawaii has named Lenny Olayan Salesperson of the Year for 2002. He joined Budget in May of 1994.
