HPU tennis teams smash UC Davis

DAVIS, Calif. >> Matey Pampulov and Blaz Jurjec won their matches 6-1, 6-0 to help the Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team beat UC Davis 9-0 yesterday.

The No. 6 Sea Warriors improved to 11-2 and won each match in straight sets except for Mikael Maatta, who needed three.

The No. 14 HPU women beat Davis 8-1 to improve their record to 8-5. Both teams are on their way to the PacWest championships in Billings, Mont., beginning Thursday.

UH sailors win again before Pacific meet

SAN FRANCISCO >> The Hawaii coed sailing team won the St. Francis Invitational for the first time in five years yesterday, turning back USC.

Hawaii scored 53 points in the two divisions, led by Brian Lake and Jennifer Warnock's 31 points and Joey Pasqualli and Sarah Hitchcock's 22.

Hawaii scored 53 points in the meet, followed by USC with 108 and Stanford with 133.

Smoody hits NCAA standard in high jump

LOS ANGELES >> Hawaii's Olivia Smoody cleared 1.7 meters in the high jump at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational yesterday, qualifying for the national championships.

Smoody set a UH record but came in fourth in the event.

Robin McRobbie also broke a UH record, running the 3,000 meter steeplechase in 11:36.41 to place 10th.

HPU's Choy Foo honored by PacWest

Hawaii Pacific softball player Brandy Choy Foo was named the Pacific West Conference's player of the week yesterday for her performance in the Easton Softball Classic at Modesto, Calif., last week. Choy Foo was named to the All-Tournament team and hit .400.

Wahine golfers 15th in Utah Dixie Classic

ST. GEORGE, Utah >> The Hawaii women's golf team shot a 466 on the first day of the Utah Dixie Classic to tie for 15th.

Tara Chappell led the Wahine with 115 strokes over 27 holes.

Warriors 18th: The Hawaii men's team shot a 637 to finish the first day of the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf in Santa Cruz, Calif., in 18th. James Beston was the top Warrior with a 151 over 36 holes.
