RALLYING TO SAVE FUNDING FOR ADULT EDUCATION IN HAWAII

Nearly 400 people rallied at the state Capitol yesterday in support of adult education, saying that Gov. Linda Lingle's plan to cut the program's funding in half would drastically curtail classes in literacy, English and basic skills. They received good news from the Senate Ways and Means Committee, which approved a version of the budget that maintains full funding for adult education.

More than 275 cups of steamed rice, 500 slices of Spam and 208 feet of nori were used yesterday in an attempt to construct the world's longest Spam musubi at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Executive Director of Economic Development Manuel Menendez III, left, measured the line of musubi, which came out to be more than 132 feet. Waiting to eat Spam musubi was Nana Matsunaga.
