UH’s Bloch 13th in
event at NCAA meet


AUSTIN, Texas >> Hawaii's Cheyne Bloch finished 13th in the consolation finals of the 100-meter breast yesterday at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

His time was 54.16 seconds.

Pat Calhoun of Auburn won the event in 53.33.

Bloch, a junior from Maui, swam the 200 IM in 1.47.98 in the preliminaries on Thursday. He just missed making the cut, as the qualifying mark was 1.47.78.

UH diver Mike Gowdy came up just short Thursday.

Gowdy, a junior from Canada, finished 11th in the 1-meter event, with 293.05 points. Only the top eight of the 35 competitors advanced.


HPU routs visitors in baseball sweep

Hawaii Pacific swept a baseball doubleheader from Southern Connecticut State yesterday at Aloha Stadium.

Geoffrey Say was 7-for-8 in the doubleheader, scoring five runs as HPU (20-12) beat the Owls (4-6) 7-2 and 18-2.

Matt Paulson and Blane Muraoka picked up the wins for the Sea Warriors.

Scott Hunter added four hits and five RBIs in the sweep.

BYUH drops 2 in softball

IRVINE, Calif. >> The Brigham Young-Hawaii softball team dropped a doubleheader to Concordia, losing both games 4-2.

Lisa Hansen and Regina Molifua took the losses for the Seasiders (19-21).

BYUH lost 2-0 leads in the sixth inning of both games.
