HILO >> A passenger on the cruise ship Norwegian Wind was flown by medevac helicopter to Hilo Medical Center by the Coast Guard yesterday after suffering diabetic symptoms Wednesday, the Coast Guard said.

The patient, Leslie Sylman, 52, of Orlando, Fla., was listed in guarded condition at the hospital after arriving at 10:40 a.m. She was stabilized the night before by a doctor on the ship, the Coast Guard said.

The ship was 120 miles south of Hilo en route to Fanning Island when it changed course and came within 60 miles of Kona. Meanwhile, a Coast Guard HH-65 Dolphin helicopter left Barbers Point at 6:20 a.m. yesterday, refueled in Kona, then met the ship and picked up the patient, the Coast Guard said.
