trounces Maryknoll

Grant Yamaguchi pitched a five-inning one-hitter as defending state champion Mid-Pacific routed Maryknoll 13-0 yesterday in an Interscholastic League of Honolulu baseball game.

Ryan Matsumoto's first-inning single was the lone hit for the Spartans (0-4).

Yamaguchi struck out two batters, and was supported offensively by MPI's seven-run second inning. Jonathan Hee's two-run single highlighted the outburst for the Owls (2-2-1).

Iolani 7, Saint Louis 1: Sean Freas went 5 1/3 strong innings and the Raiders (5-0) scored five times in the fourth on five hits and two errors by the Crusaders (2-2-1).

Freas allowed one run on five hits and struck out three for the victory. He was backed up by a defense that threw out two runners at home and erased three more runners on the basepaths.
