Kids gathered around the new playground facility at Kuhio School during a dedication ceremony yesterday morning. The equipment was built within seven months through PTA fund-raisers, state funds, business support and the efforts of Darcy and Isoa Takeifanga, who solicited donations and helped build it.




WHALE OF AN AUCTION ON MAUI

Some $145,000 was raised for various charities yesterday during a benefit auction of 30 whale sculptures held by Soroptimist International of West Maui. Pat and Joe Perin, of Cincinnati, who visit Maui annually, were winning bidders of the sculpture "A World of Aloha," created by Michael Orr, of Hale O Ahi Glass Inc.
