Sprouting
Perceptions

"Seed," an art exhibition on display at Kapiolani Community College's Lama Library, explores the process of emergence.

An exhibit flyer says, "A seed is a beginning. An embryo which encapsulates infinite possibilities." But the show focuses not on a beginning or ending; rather, "on the sprouting of an emerging synthesis. ("Seed") is an exploration of the effects on a seed through time.

"How can time alter our initial perceptions?"

Works include an installation by Diane Nushida-Tokuno called "Hope," which employs books, candles and seeds assembled in and on a glass case; Keiko Hatano felted wool sculptures of seed pods; ceramics by Yoko Haar; and a mixed bag of work by Noe Tanigawa that includes mixed media sculptures, a painting and even a video. Other artists featured in the exhibit include Lori Ohtani and Tsugumi Iwasaki-Higbee.

"Seed" runs through April 5 at Lama Library. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays. Call 734-9375.

The artists will lead a walkthrough of the exhibit at 9:15 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Lama Library. For more information, call 734-9375.
