New jobs

>> Hawaii State Federal Credit Union has hired Duane L. Teruya as chief lending officer. He most recently oversaw a dealer center and customer loan center as a City Bank vice president and manager. He has more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry, including service as a Bank of Hawaii loan officer and First Interstate Bank assistant branch manager.

>> Amin Leiman has been hired as chief information officer at Roberts Hawaii. He will be responsible for leading the information technology department and for technology functions and projects for all subsidiaries. He was most recently director of risk and advisory services for the accounting firm KPMG.

>> Maui Youth and Family Services has named Rick Engleman substance abuse program director. He has more than a decade of experience in youth services, most recently as supervisor of Juneau Youth Services in Alaska. Engleman is responsible for "Imua Mau Ohana," in which youth receive experiential learning through a series of voyaging expeditions and service projects around the state. Maui Youth and Family Services provides a range of services throughout Maui county.

>> Island Insurance Cos. has named Kim Strohecker as loss control representative. She will provide loss control services to Island's commercial clients, review and evaluate company records and recommend programs that will help clients decrease or eliminate losses. She was previously a loss prevention specialist with Universal Underwriters Group in California.

>> Chuck Hills has been named marketing manager for Graham Builders Inc. He will be responsible for directing all marketing, advertising and public relations functions for the design/build firm.

>>American Savings has hired Vianne Tabata as a residential loan officer, Karl E. Baker as sales manager and Dennis Chong as senior loan officer. All three will be in the residential loan sales division. Tabata is a specialist in mortgage lending. She has worked in the banking business for 15 years. Baker has been in the field of mortgage lending for more than 14 years. Chong has been in the mortgage industry for 13 years, most recently at First Hawaiian Bank.

>> Rozanne C. Baker, Tracy J. Knight and Ellen E. Lund have joined the Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties new agent training office as sales associates. Baker was most recently a sales associate with Afterthoughts, a costume jewelry and accessories store. Knight was a purchaser for Southern Wine & Spirits of Hawaii. Lund was the customer service manager for four of Salem Media of Hawaii's radio stations. Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties has five offices on Oahu and more than 400 sales associates.

Promotions

>> Steve K. Sombrero has been promoted to chief executive officer of Chaney, Brooks & Company Inc. He specializes in international business and has been involved in real estate since 1987. He joined the company two years ago as senior vice president of the Government Group. Also at Chaney, Brooks, Wendell F. Brooks III has been promoted to senior vice president. He is the son of the founding partner of the real estate organization.

>> Corianne W. Lau has been named a shareholder and director with the law firm of Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing. Her areas of practice are employment law, personal injury defense, medical malpractice defense and general litigation. She has been with the firm since 1997.

>> Grace Pacific Corp. has promoted Robert Creps to senior vice president of administration. He was previously vice president of finance and administration, and has worked for Grace Pacific for more than 16 years. Creps will oversee the company's financial, legal, risk and environmental matters. Grace Pacific is an asphalt paving contractor and supplier of construction aggregates and hot mix asphalt.

On the board

>> Brandt Farias has been named 2003 corporate board chairman for Catholic Charities Hawaii. He is senior vice president and manager of the marketing and product management division of First Hawaiian Bank. Other officers are: Vice Chairwoman Marianita Lopez, attorney; Treasurer Paddy Griggs, retired partner in Deloitte & Touche; Secretary Roger Wall, executive vice president and chief financial officer of Foodland Super Market Ltd. New members include: Robbie Alm, Stan Brown, Beth Francisca, James Gonsalves, Jeffrey Loo and Rix Maurer. Catholic Charities Hawaii has 38 programs statewide serving more than 22,000 people a year.

>> The Lyon Arboretum Association has elected Larry E. Helber as president of its board of directors. David P. McCauley is 1st vice president, Samuel M. Gon III is 2nd vice president, Emma W. Seymour is treasurer and Winona P. Char is secretary. The association supports Lyon Arboretum, a botanical garden and rain forest in Manoa Valley.

>> Jeff White of Hawaii was recently named to Linsco/Private Ledger Financial Services' Patriot's Club, a status reserved for the top 6 percent of all representatives. He was recognized for his performance and commitment to client service. Linsco is an independent broker and dealer that offers fee-based asset management and non-proprietary brokerage services.
