The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation has donated $1 million to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii to develop a residential care community for the elderly in Ewa.

"We appreciate this magnanimous gift from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation," said Kathleen Sullivan Wo, chairwoman of the St. Francis Healthcare Foundation of Hawaii board of directors.

The project, scheduled to begin in 2004, includes construction of low-rise, affordable rental apartments for independent living, adult day care and other adjunct facilities.

The facility gives residents decision-making powers regarding chore and special-assistance services.
