A Honolulu police officer was shot and killed at the Baskins-Robbins store at the Kapolei Shopping Center this afternoon.

Officer Glen Gaspar, 40, was pronounced dead at St. Francis-West Medical Center, according to a police spokeswoman.

Gaspar, a 10-year veteran of HPD, was on special assignment with HPD's Career Criminal Unit.

Police said they have arrested a suspect, Shane Mark, who was wanted for attempted murder and numerous weapons violations. According to a Feb. 5 Crimestoppers bulletin, Mark was wanted for firing a gun at two males after a dispute over the purchase of a video camera.

Police said Mark was also at St. Francis being treated for minor injuries.

Bystanders at the Kapolei Shopping Center said they heard between two and four shots fired soon after a commotion.

Police said they received a call about 1 p.m. that an undercover police officer had been shot.

An employee at the Cookie Corner said she heard about two to three "popping sounds." The employee, who did not want to give her name, said police pulled someone out of Baskin-Robbins and put him in a police vehicle. She also said there was a lot of yelling and commotion before the shots were fired.

Another employee at Jeans Warehouse was walking to the restroom when she heard a man yelling to "get away and move" and heard three gunshots following the commotion.
