A Wahiawa man was sentenced in U.S. District Court to 21 years and eight months in federal prison for trafficking drugs near a private Wahiawa school.

Christopher Natividad, 41, of Plum Street was also ordered Monday to spend eight years on supervised release once he gets out of prison. His term of imprisonment was longer and his supervised release was doubled because he was trafficking drugs within 1,000 feet of Hoala School.

Natividad pleaded guilty in June 2002 to four trafficking charges. The case stemmed from a joint investigation by the FBI and Honolulu police after police received numerous complaints that a person was selling drugs from a van in or around the Plum Street area, said Assistant U.S. Attorney Beverly Wee Sameshima.

During the investigation, an undercover officer purchased nearly 172 grams of methamphetamine from Natividad, who instructed the officer to meet him at Fred Wright Park, which is across the street from Hoala School.
