It’s good to be the king
-- in real estate

IF only the irrepressible Kimo McVay were still alive, I blanch at how he would have reacted to this: Pinnacle, a slick magazine which is a sales vehicle for high-end real estate in L.A. also features some Hawaii properties. Patricia Choy is offering a Diamond Head estate for $6,678,000 and the copy says it was "designed and originally occupied by legendary Honolulan Albert Ives and his wife Kinau Wilder, a descendant of King Kamehameha." Wilder, of course, had no Hawaiian blood, but Kimo, who was her son, would somehow have turned that copy into proof he should be King of the Islands, I'm sure ...

AN actual wearer of a crown is Alicia Michioka, the 2003 Miss Hawaii USA, and she'll be in San Antonio to appear in the national Miss USA pageant on NBC on March 24. Her wardrobe, donated by local and international designers, will be showcased -- as will she -- in a fashion preview 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at Michelle Henry's Tea at 1024 at 1024 Nuuanu Ave. ... Recently stopping by Leilani's on the Beach in Kaanapali was Mick Fleetwood and his family. He regularly dines on fish tacos there. And another Leilani's regular, Cleveland Browns' CEO Carmen Policy, also brought his family by ...

The "M's" have it

TWO Masinis, two Millers and a Momoa are all busy these days. Remember when Al Masini and his then-wife April Masini held a cattle call of 2,700 hopefuls and the upshot was the casting of Stacy Kamano, Kala'i Miller and Jason Momoa? Having been given his opportunity with "Baywatch Hawaii," April is thrilled that Momoa is starring along with Virginia Madsen in "Tempted," a film airing March 10 on Lifetime Television ... Then there's lovely Marissa Miller, spokes-person for the Masinis' "Destination Stardom." She's a standout in this year's Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue, and she's also one of Victoria Secret's favorite models -- gracing the catalog's cover countless times ... And as for Kalai Miller, he left both "Baywatch Hawaii" and "Destination Stardom" behind and is hosting his second season of "The Last Resort," and is also showing up on various TV news shows ...

GLOBAL Positioning System developer Brad Parkinson didn't let a blizzard prevent him from flying to Washington from Hawaii to pick up his National Academy of Engineering's Draper Prize. But the 68-year-old Parkinson was overshadowed by another Draper winner, Ivan Getting, who at 91 flew in from San Diego. And 92-year-old dialysis machine inventor Willem Kolff took the train from Philadelphia to collect his Russ Prize and the $500,000 that goes with it. They probably call Parkinson "kid." ...

A 3-wood away

The owner of three Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bars in Hawaii, D.K. Kodama is taking over Fleming's on the Green (in the Village Course clubhouse) and notes it's just a drive away from his original Sansei in Maui's Kapalua Resort. His new 200-seat eatery won't be a Sansei -- the Kapalua Island Grill will feature American food and is slated to open early this summer ...
