Finegan wins
WAC award

Hawaii shortstop Brian Finegan has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week along with Rice pitcher David Aardsma.

Finegan hit .615 in four games for the Rainbows, helping them to win all four. He has hit safely in all seven games this season and leads the 'Bows with a .458 batting average.

"Actually it was the furthest thing from my mind," Finegan said. "Someone mentioned that I could possibly win it and I thought 'That's awesome, that would be quite an honor.' The bottom line is that it means we are winning, though. That is really all that matters."

Finegan's start earned him a promotion from the ninth spot in the batting order to the leadoff spot, where he spent his career at Cuesta Junior College. It doesn't necessarily mean he will stay in the spot, even though Shafer Magana is 1-for-14 in the top spot this season and has combined with Isaac Omura to go 2-for-22.

"We'll see how that goes," Trapasso said. "It was a one-game deal because we wanted to move some guys around and needed a leadoff guy. We'll have to take a look at it and see, he can certainly handle the leadoff spot but we consider the nine hole the second leadoff spot anyway."

The Rainbows are 6-1 this season and take on Wichita State this weekend.
