Mililani gets top seed

Defending state champion Mililani received the top seed for this week's 2003 Meadow Gold Girls State Soccer Championship Tournament on Maui.

All winner's bracket games are scheduled for War Memorial Stadium in Wailuku. Some consolation games are planned for Keopuolani Park.

The Trojans (12-0-1) won the OIA title two weeks ago with a 3-2 overtime win over Pearl City.

Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Punahou (9-0-1), Maui Interscholastic League champion Baldwin (12-0) and Big Island champ Hawaii Prep (12-1) are the other seeded teams, in order.

The tournament starts Wednesday with four games -- Kealakehe (11-3) vs. Kahuku (8-4-1), Kauai (5-1-2) vs. Kalaheo (9-2-3), Pearl City (11-1-1) vs. Hilo (11-2), and King Kekaulike (9-2-1) vs. Aiea (11-3).

Seeded teams start tournament play Thursday against the winners of the opening-round games.

The tournament continues through Saturday's 7:30 p.m. championship game.

A spot in the state tournament is up for grabs as the Interscholastic League of Honolulu postseason basketball tournament starts tomorrow.

Regular-season champion Iolani (14-0) and runner-up Saint Louis (11-3) have already qualified for the states, which run the following week.

The ILH's other six teams -- Kamehameha (10-4), Punahou (7-7), Damien (5-9), Maryknoll (4-10), Mid-Pacific (3-11) and University (2-12) -- fight along with Division II Hawaii Baptist Academy in the tournament for the league's third state berth.
