Yuen succeeds Skousen
as press aide for Inouye

Former Honolulu Star-Bulletin Capitol bureau chief Mike Yuen has joined U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye's staff as press secretary.

Yuen, a Honolulu native, replaces Sandi Skousen, who left Inouye's office for personal reasons.

Yuen has worked for the National Public Radio in Washington as a national editor and for the Houston Post as a foreign correspondent. Yuen also worked as a correspondent in the Cox Newspapers Washington Bureau and contributed to the New York Times. He spent three years in Beijing and Shanghai, where he worked as an editor and freelance journalist.

"Mr. Yuen has local, national and international media experience which will serve us well in Washington, D.C.," Inouye said.

Inouye also has named Edmund Aczon as West Oahu field representative. He is the president of Aczon Construction Ltd. in Sand Island.

Aczon, originally from the Philippines and now living in Mililani, worked as a general contractor and foreman at Hawaiian Dredging Construction Co. from 1975 to 1987.

His position was created to tend to the needs of the increasing residential population in West Oahu.

Aczon's community involvement includes the Oahu Arts Center; the state's Hawaii Strategic Development Corp.; Institute for Human Services Inc.; Hawaii 3Rs -- Repair, Remodel, Restore our Schools; and the Filipino Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii.

Navy rescue jumpers aid stricken seaman

Four Navy SEALs parachuted to a bulk-carrier east of the Big Island on Saturday to provide medical assistance to an ailing crew member.

The SEALs jumped from a C-130 Hercules from Coast Guard Station Barbers Point to the Nordrhine when it was 315 miles from Hilo, Coast Guard Petty Officer Lauren Smith said.

Zhivko Nedev, 49, was suffering an enlarged prostate and was in need of immediate medical attention, Smith said.
