Coin flip needed in West

The final OIA playoff berth from the Western Division will be decided by a coin flip.

Aiea, Waipahu and Campbell finished the regular season with 4-6 records. Five West teams have qualified for the postseason, leaving the three 4-6 teams trying to fill one spot.

OIA basketball coordinator Lee Cashman, Kalaheo's athletic director, said last night the coin flip will take place today or tomorrow.

Aiea beat Waipahu, Waipahu defeated Campbell and Campbell beat Aiea -- negating the first tiebreaker of head-to-head results.

The opponents the three teams beat had the same records, which is the second tiebreaker. The coin flip is the final tiebreaker.
