Column to debut
this monthA new column -- "This Sunday" -- will begin Feb. 9 on this page. It will feature four island writers.
They will take turns writing the column, and their diverse backgrounds and interests will provide different perspectives on issues and events large and small. You can expect wide-ranging, wide-open essays.
First up, on Feb. 9, will be John Heckathorn, editor of HONOLULU magazine and host of "HONOLULU Magazine Presents Heckathorn's Hot Plate," a radio show on KKEA 1420AM.
Next will be Mary Vorsino, a University of Hawaii at Manoa junior majoring in journalism and political science. She also is editor-in-chief of Ka Leo O Hawaii, the daily student newspaper.
The following week, Pamela M. McBride will write. She is a career counselor with Resource Consultants. She also freelances for several national publications and has had nearly 100 articles published during the past six years. She and her military family have been in Hawaii for nearly three years.
The fourth contributor to "This Sunday" will be Heidi Chang, who got her start hosting a jazz show (and other music shows) in Honolulu in the 1970s. She has worked as a TV and radio journalist in San Francisco, Seattle and Hawaii, and is an independent reporter and producer.
