Dylan Bruno, whose acting credits include "Saving Private Ryan" and the television movie "The Pennsylvania Miners' Story," is the star of the Hawaii-based Fox Television series pilot "The Break."

Fifteen days of filming of the police drama on Oahu are scheduled to begin March 3.

"Dylan is a great actor and a strong surfer, both important qualities for the lead character in this story," said John Stockwell, creator and director of "The Break." "Everything is falling in place wonderfully."

About 300 actors auditioned for the part of character Dane Patterson, who in the story left Hawaii at 17 for Detroit, but returns with his troubled son years later to live with his sister at a North Shore beach house. Patterson joins HPD's Crime Reduction Unit, where he works primarily with four partners.

Other principal roles still being cast are the main character's brother-in-law and sister.

Stockwell, who is producing the pilot with Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer, arrives in Hawaii Sunday to begin pre-production. Stockwell said he hopes Fox officials decide early to approve the pilot for a 13-week fall series to run through next January.
