He is survived by wife Doris, son Ray, daughters Darlene Waitherwerch and Lovena Amorin, brother Louis, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Maximo "Ponso" Alfonso Gapol, 86, of Keaau, Hawaii, a retired Puna Sugar Co. employee and an Army National Guard veteran who served in World War II, died last Saturday in Hilo Medical Center. He was born in Hakalau, Hawaii. He is survived by sons Ronald, Melvin and Stanley; daughters Rachel Yamashita, Doralyn Tanigawa and Nancy Batangan; companion Trinidad Abelaye; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
