Fund-raiser for a friend

While Danny Dolan, a longtime bartender at Anna Bannanas, lost his home to an electrical fire on New Year's Eve, he hasn't been at a loss for friends. A fund-raiser called (with good humor) "Burning Down the House" happens tonight at the popular Moiliili watering hole, featuring Country Truck, Go Jimmy Go, Ooklah the Moc, Pimpbot and DJ Big Bar. It starts at 6, with all money made tonight, including the $10 cover (21 and over), to be donated to Dolan, his wife and newborn son.

Selleck is tall in the saddle

Cable channel TNT has hit ratings gold more than once with Westerns based on classic frontier tales and starring square-jawed leading men. Tonight it goes to that watering hole again, with the 6 p.m. premiere of "Monte Walsh," based on a Jack Schaefer novel and starring Tom Selleck.

Walsh is an aging cowboy, coping with the end of the old way of life and the closing down of the frontier -- at the behest of big, bad Eastern corporations -- at the conclusion of the 19th century. Among those helping him cope are his girlfriend (Isabella Rossellini) and best pal (Keith Carradine).

Selleck also produced the drama, and the director is Simon Wincer ("Lonesome Dove"), who worked with him two years ago on "Crossfire Trail." All around, this looks like a winning oater.
