New jobs

>> Richard C. Lee III has been named general manager of Outrigger Canoe Club. He returns to Honolulu from Deer Valley, Utah, where he was general manager of The Lodge at Stillwater. The Outrigger Canoe Club is a private athletic and social club founded on Waikiki Beach in 1908.

>> The Westin Maui has added Nicole Newton as director of catering and conference services, Sonya Collings as national sales manager and Lalo Fernandez as senior sales manager. Newton will be responsible for directing the catering and conferences team in planning and coordinating all in-house banquet and meeting functions. She has more than 12 years in the hotel industry, most recently as director of resort catering and conference services at Resort Semiahmoo in Washington. Both Collings and Fernandez will be responsible for booking group business for the 759-room hotel property. The Westin Maui in Kaanapali in one of 120 Westin hotels and resorts in 25 countries.

>> Jason L. Sanders has been named project director at Market Trends Pacific Inc. He is a recent graduate of the University of Hawaii and Japan-American Institute of Management Sciences. He most recently taught business courses at Trans-Pacific Hawaii College. Sanders handles administrative and analytical responsibilities for surveys and other market research processes conducted for the firm's clients.

>> Karen Hong has been hired at Finance Insurance Ltd. as account executive. She will work with Hawaii architects and engineers to ensure they have the appropriate insurance for their professions, such as professional liability, employer's liability and worker's compensation. Prior to joining the company, she served as Hawaii Employers' Mutual Insurance Co. vice president of claims and assistant to the president.

Promotions

>> Frank T. Sanpei has been promoted to vice president from operations manager at M&E Pacific Inc. He brings more than 40 years of civil and environmental engineering experience to the position. Sanpei will oversee operations of the engineering, construction management and surveying departments at the consulting engineering firm.

>> Group 70 International has promoted interior designer Donna D. Pennington, planner Stephen Kelly and project architect Pepito "Pete" C. Galvez associates. In the past 13 years, Pennington has worked on commercial, hotel, residential, military and educational projects. Kelly specializes in community and environmental planning in both private and public sectors. Galvez oversees project management and construction administration duties for a variety of private- and public-sector jobs. Group 70 offers architecture, assets management, urban planning, environmental services and interior design services.

>> Paige Sato has been promoted to business development manager at Hawaii Pacific Federal Credit Union. She was formerly retail service manager. Sato will be responsible for growing the credit union's field of membership as well as for company marketing, advertising and promotions. Hawaii Pacific Federal Credit specializes in assisting small businesses and their employees who work in the Ala Moana and Kapiolani vicinity.

>> First Hawaiian Bank has promoted three new assistant vice presidents: Joyce H. Matsuda, real estate residential loans department; Edwina Olivera, compliance department; and Deborah A. Saito, treasury and investment division. The bank has also appointed the following officers: Cristopher Borden, Bishop Street Capital Management portfolio manager; Kyle T. Matsumoto, food services department food service manager; Peter Nagata, asset lending department real estate loan officer; Alan H. Nishijima, branch residential loan department real estate loan officer; and Evan M. Segura, Maite Banking Center service manager.

>> Brian Lawton has been promoted to program manager for the Easter Seals Hawaii Youth Services Program. He most recently worked in the home and community based services program in Ewa Beach.

On the board

>> The trustees of the Estate of James Campbell have elected Adm. R.J. Zlatoper chairman. He succeeds Richard W. Gushman II. A new chairman is elected each year. The other trustees are Clint Churchill and David Heenan. Zlatoper joined the estate in 2000. He retired as a four-star admiral after a 33-year career in the U.S. Navy, which included serving as commander-in-chief of the U.S. Pacific Fleet. The Estate of James Campbell is a 103-year-old private trust that owns and manages real estate in Hawaii and 15 mainland states. The estate's largest project is the development of the City of Kapolei.

>> The Institute of Real Estate Management, Hawaii Chapter No. 34, has elected Jeffrey Mau president for 2003. Other officers are: President-Elect Daisy Yamada, Treasurer Naomi Iha Suto and Secretary Peter Emerson. Vice presidents are: Liz Palmer and Christina Asao, education; Roxanne Uyehara and Phyllis Kacher, membership; Michelle Wong, legislation; Barbara Campbell and Corrine Sakazaki, programs; and Linda Gee and Lynn Uyenco, public relations. IREM's mission is to foster professionalism and advocate for the industry.

Recognition

>> Mary Begier of Mary Begier Realty has been named 2002 Realtor of the Year by the Honolulu Board of Realtors. She has more than 20 years of experience in real estate and serves as board director and chairwoman-elect. She has also served as a director for the Hawaii Association of Realtors and the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors on the Big Island.

>> Signature Theatres presented its annual Manager of the Year award to Dole Cannery 18 Theatre's Ian Anselmo. He has more than 11 years in the movie theatre industry with California's Mann Theatre circuit and Signature Theatres in Hawaii.

>> The Oahu Chapter of the Hawaii Association of Public Accountants has awarded $750 scholarships to University of Hawaii at Manoa senior Jenny Kanoe Garcia-Quinones, University of Hawaii-West Oahu senior Myrna Wong Cobb and Brigham Young University-Hawaii Campus senior Mei Kei Maggie Chow. The awards were based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, community service, writing skills and financial need.
