Hawaiian entertainer inspired granddaughter



George Marvin Adams, 82, of Honolulu, a retired U.S. Air Force colonel in telecommunications and GTE Business Sales Center director, died Nov. 27 in Tripler Center for Aging in Honolulu. He was born in Illinois. He is survived by daughter Patricia Richter and nephew Larry Adams. Services: 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at National Cemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl.

Dorothy Ibia Barretto, 71, of Kapaa, Kauai, a Happy Kauaian sales associate, died Tuesday in Wilcox Memorial Hospital. She is survived by husband Gilbert Sr.; sons Gilbert Jr., Glen, Patrick and Brian; daughters Joyce Hernandez, Valerie Barretto-Oshita and Debbie Barretto-Haraguchi; brothers Julian and Raymond Ibia; sisters Mildred Assuncion and Irene Patigayon; 30 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren. The mortuary provided additional information for an obituary published yesterday.

Helen Kam Yuk Chun, 86, of Honolulu, died Dec. 30. She was born in Honolulu. She is survived by husband Leong Wah; sons Edgar, Eric and Everett; daughter Edwina Lau; brother Henry Lee; sisters Dorothy Chun, Bertha Young and Alma Goo; and six grandchildren. Visitation: 8:30 a.m. Friday at Hawaiian Memorial Park. Taoist services ongoing. Burial: 11 a.m. at the same location. No flowers.

Vern Hon Mun Hiu, 64, of Honolulu, owner of Nui Nui Tours and Gold Spike Casino in Las Vegas, died Thursday in Honolulu. He was born in Honolulu. He is survived by sons Francis S., Matthew and John; mother Hana; brothers Frederick and Roland H.M.; sisters Annette Hee and Mariette Newcomb Lipsky; and eight grandchildren. Robert Lawrence, 60, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., president of Lockheed Martin Corp.'s Middle East Africa and Pakistan division, died Wednesday on Kauai. He was born in Wisconsin. Robert Chiu Fong Lee, 79, of Kailua, a retired Kailua Post Office postal carrier, died Monday in Castle Medical Center. He was born in Honolulu.
