Talk about above and beyond the call of duty.

This year's Hawaii Hotel Association Outstanding Lodging Employee of the Year is Jose Racasa. The waiter at Radisson Waikiki Price Kuhio Hotel's Trellisses Restaurant donated a kidney last year to an ailing customer who confided his medical condition.

"The zest and pleasure Jose display's in his work is inspirational," said Gary Jutz, hotel general manager, in nominating Racasa for the award. "His warmth and caring is genuine," he said.

Hawaii's top hotel industry employees and a hotel supplier received awards yesterday at the HHA's annual luncheon.

Other winners were: Bell Person of the Year Karl Ah Sing, Concierge of the Year Jane Bailon, Food & Beverage Person of the Year Brian Takashima, Engineering/Maintenance Person of the Year Clifford Guerpo, Front Desk Person of the Year Erwin Pimental, Manager of the year Bryan Ashlock, Room Keeper of the year Leticia Morales, Security Officer of the Year Curtis Aiwohi, and Allied Member of the Year Hawaii Isles Kona Coffee and Water Co.

Honorees are selected based on nominations submitted by their supervisors, co-workers and clients.
