Analog Style

Oceanic Cable is now offering the Style network, which dubs itself as "the only network devoted to fashion, beauty, home design and unique ideas for entertaining," on Channel 77.

The Style Network had always been accessible to Oceanic's digital customers, but now its analog subscribers have it as part of their basic cable package.

Style offers programs such as "Area," a show tailored to the young professional's design dilemmas; "Shabby Chic," which heralds the beauty of imperfections as the cornerstone of interior design and more; and for the strictly fashion-oriented, "Fashion Trance," a seemingly never-ending showcase of runway shows accompanied by modern beats.

Check your local TV listings for day and times.

Dream home planning

American Savings Bank joins hands with Graham Builders Inc. and Armstrong Builders to offer free seminars throughout the year.

Graham Builders will hold a "Build Your Dream Home" seminar 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Honolulu Country Club. Speakers will cover topics such as what to do before you start your construction project, and will warn home owners of planning perils before any contracts are signed. Call 593-2808 to make reservations.

The Armstrong Builders seminar will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 22 and will include a discussion of building methods and materials such as steel vs. wood frames, termite prevention, high wind-resistance planning, and finishing choices. Call 848-2488, ext. 15, to make reservations.

Retro store relocates

Local woodworker and furniture designer Sean Gilbert has moved his store, Hawaiian Furniture and Lamp Co., from its Aina Haina location to 500 Alakawa St., near Costco in Iwilei, where there is an abundance of floor space. Store hours are 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays to Sundays.

He still carries the relief-carved lounge chairs and lamps reminiscent of '40s and '50s furniture design, and there are a few new things as well, including paintings by Cook Island artists depicting hula dancers, punee beds and quilt racks.

Call Gilbert at 848-7600 for more information about what they have in stock.
