Star-Bulletin staff

HILO >> The Hawaii County Fire Department will refund the $25 fee for fireworks permits to people who were unable to buy fireworks because supplies ran out, the department announced yesterday.

The offer is good through Jan 10. After that, the permits expire and will not be refunded, the department said.

To receive the refund, permit holders must bring both pages of the permit, the department said. Refunds will be made at the Central Fire Station in Hilo, at the department's administrative offices at the county building, and at the fire inspector's office in Kona, the department said. For Further information call 961-8297.

Oahu officials had said that no refunds will be made although fireworks were selling out. Fire officials warned the public of the no-refund policy with posted signs and announcements through the news media.
