January is a month for Kikaida as two new Kikaida characters make their Hawaii debut. Bijinda and Waruda will be at Shirokiya, Ala Moana Center, from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday. The new characters will be joined by Kikaida, Kikaida 01 and actor Ban Daisuke (Jiro in the "Kikaida" series), greeting fans and posing for photos (fee required) to mark the release of the second volume of the "Kikaida" DVD.

This will be Bijinda and Waruda's only appearance in Hawaii in January, although the others will be visiting shopping centers throughout the month.

Ban Daisuke will autograph officially licensed Kikaida merchandise free with the purchase of the DVD at Sunday's event. Admission is free, and those in need of more information can call 836-0361.

THEN ON Jan. 12, Kikaida and Kikaida 01 will square off against Hakaida in two free live stage appearances at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. during the New Year Festival celebration at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii, 2454 S. Beretania St.

Highlights of the event include a charity silent auction of "Kikaida" collectibles and autographs by Ban Daisuke (with proceeds benefiting the center); picture-taking with Kikaida, Kikaida 01 and Hakaida; and new-edition Generation Kikaida merchandise for sale.

Also, pick up the second volume of the Kikaida DVD, get autographs from actor Ban Daisuke and pose for photos with Kikaida at the following locations:

Jan. 11 -- Borders, Ward Centre, 2 to 4 p.m.

Jan. 18 -- Borders, Waikele Center, 2 to 4 p.m.

Jan. 25 -- Costco, Waipio, 1 to 2 p.m.

The live-action superhero series "Kikaida" debuted in July 1972 on Japanese television and in February 1974 on KIKU-TV in Hawaii. The 43-episode series followed the adventures of a young biker named Jiro, who is actually an android created to stop the evil DARK organization from taking over the world. Jiro transforms into the red-and-blue Kikaida to combat DARK.

The "Kikaida DVD, Vol. 2" features episodes 6 through 10, in which Kikaida takes on the evil Professor Gill and DARK Destructoid monsters Black Horse, Bull Kong, Carmine Spider, Red Condor and Scorpion Brown.

Kikaidamaniacs can also find out how much they really know about "Kikaida" with new special features such as a Kikaida Trivia Game and behind-the-scenes episode factoids. Holdover special features include cast and crew profiles, and DARK Destructoid Monster profiles with sound.

The DVD will also available at Barnes & Noble, Bestsellers, Blockbuster, Borders, Costco, Daiei, Longs, Sam Goody, Sam's Club, Suncoast, Tower Records, Wal-Mart, military exchanges and through the Generation Kikaida Online Store at www.generationkikaida.com.
