Have a blast
at Aloha Tower

STILL HAVEN'T decided exactly where you'll be when midnight arrives tonight? You're not the only one -- most people I've talked to around town aren't sure what they're doing for New Year's Eve. If you don't plan on staying home with family, here are a couple of celebrations worth noting...

ALOHA TOWER MARKETPLACE is probably the best bet for those who want to enter 2003 with a bang, both literally and figuratively. The Marc Resorts "Big Bang" Fireworks Celebration gets started at 6 p.m. and features live entertainment at Pier 9 in addition to offerings by each of the restaurants at the marketplace. And at midnight, Hawaii Explosives and Pyrotechnics will kick off a spectacular fireworks display.

If you want to dress up, head to the Diamond Head side of the marketplace's second floor for the "007 Theme Party," put on by Mass Appeal Entertainment. Ten Feet and Touch of Gold will perform, and $1,000 will be given away in a "James Bond 007 Contest." Tickets are $50 at the door and include a free pupu buffet, two drinks and a glass of champagne at midnight. Call 566-0044 for more info ...

ANOTHER GIVEN on New Year's Eve (as far as raging parties are concerned) is the good old Wave Waikiki. This year's theme is glow-in-the-dark: "Glo-Ball New Year's Eve 2002" kicks off at 9 p.m. and promises to "immerse you in a world of GLOing extravagance and excitement." Sounds like my experiences hanging out with Native Blend front man Greg Sakamoto in his dorm room while we attended USC together back in 1996.

The first 200 people through the doors at "Glo-Ball" will score free glow-in-the-dark accessories, and promoters also promise prizes from Butigroove, Hawaii's Natural High, Kick's, Sanctuary Salon and more. DJs KSM, RacerX and Jrama will be around as well, keeping things moving until the sun comes up. $10 gets you into this 21-and-over celebration; call 941-0424, ext. 12 ...

THERE MAY ALSO be a few spots left to catch the fireworks out at Camp Timberline tonight. Cabin and tent camping packages are available for $28 and $15, respectively, and both include an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast. Check-in starts at 4 p.m. today; call 672-5441 ...

THAT'S IT for 2002, folks -- here's to a happy and successful 2003. Party safe, and I'll see you all next year ...
