Crusaders take
Wong tournament title

St. Louis won the Walter Wong Holiday basketball Classic last night at McCabe Gym by beating over Orange Lutheran (Calif.) 42-38 in the championship game.

The Crusaders led 39-23 with six minutes left and survived a 12-0 run in the fourth quarter by the Lancers. Jason Rivers led St. Louis with 15 points and Sean Lucke paced the Lancers with 14. Both were named to the all-tournament team along with Ben Pawlak and Chris Fardley of Kings (Wash.), Desmond Hanohano of St. Louis and Nathan Klitzing of Orange Lutheran.

Kings took third place with a 68-42 thrashing of Farrington.

The two-time defending 1A state champions led by only two points after the first quarter but blew the Governors out 20-7 in the second.

Tikigaq of Alaska took fifth place with a 45-43 win over Maryknoll when Harry Koonuk scored the only basket in the second overtime. Stacey Wong led the Spartans with 15 points. Otheniel Oomittuck scored 14 for Tikigaq.

Hamamatsu Nishi of Japan earned seventh by beating Word of Life 66-62.
