Sea Warriors
sweep away Nanooks


Leandro Maruoka scored 19 points and pulled down 15 rebounds to help Hawaii Pacific sweep nationally ranked Alaska-Fairbanks at Mid-Pacific gym yesterday.

The Sea Warriors beat the Nanooks 64-51 after taking care of them 90-81 Saturday night. Marvin Noble scored 17 points and Nate Block added eight points and 10 rebounds last night for the Sea Warriors, who improved to 7-1 after winning their fifth in a row. The No. 21 Nanooks -- who are second in the regional rankings -- fell to 7-2.

Jason Williams scored 13 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for the Nanooks while Chris Smith matched him with 13 points.

The Sea Warriors' advantage under the basket -- Maruoka and Block combined for 27 points and 25 rebounds -- forced the Nanooks to shoot only 27.7 percent from the field in the game and 20 percent in the first half. HPU shot 38.9 percent.

HPU takes on Maryville-St. Louis on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell Arena.
