Isle 'Nutcracker' on TV

Honolulu Dance Theatre's recent production of "King Kalakaua's Nutcracker," staged at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, will be broadcast 7 p.m. tomorrow, 8 p.m. Tuesday and 3 and 9 p.m. Christmas day on Channel 55, 'Olelo Community Television.

The ballet, choreographed by Matthew Wright, is a Hawaiian adaptation of the Christmas classic, Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker."

Set in Iolani Palace during the Kalakaua era, the story positions a young Princess Kaiulani in the role of Clara, and follows the princess on a fantasy journey to snowy Mauna Kea and the whimsical Land of the Rainbows.

The video was co-produced for 'Olelo by Luke Kirch and Rochelle Ashana.
