KCCN listeners, bid
aloha to Charly Espina

TOMORROW'S THE LAST day listeners of KCCN FM-100's highly rated morning show will hear the voice of Charly Espina on a regular basis. You may remember reading in this space back in August that Espina got engaged to be married to Maui mail carrier Mark Takahama; the two were dating when Takahama decided to pop the question as Espina tried on wedding dresses during taping for the television show "Hot Hawaiian Nights."

KCCN midday jock Lina Girl will take Espina's place on the morning show, joining current hosts Bill Van Osdol and Jason "Pipi" Rezentes. Shannon Scott will move from nights to middays, and "Bruddah Bryan" Min gets the call to work evenings. Congrats to all and best of luck to the future Mrs. Takahama as she moves on to new challenges at KPOA-FM on Maui. ...

HOSTING A CHRISTMAS party or going to a holiday potluck this year and don't feel like cooking? Instead of slaving away in the kitchen, give Sam the Man's BBQ and Ramen a call -- they've got a catering special going on right now that should induce a "kanak attack" on even the hungriest of your guests.

For just $5 a person (with a minimum order of $75), Sam the Man's BBQ and Ramen will give you four choices from more than 20 different items. We're not talking just barbecue beef and chicken katsu, either; spicy dipped chicken, beef curry, teriyaki pork chops, and sweet and sour spareribs are all on the menu. Call 485-1940 at least a day in advance to place your order, and if you mention this column, the fine folks down there will throw in free delivery, too. ...

HEAD OVER to Grumpy's tomorrow night for a glimpse of Honolulu's top turntable talent as the guys from the Nocturnal Sound Krew host the preliminaries of this year's Import Revolution DJ Battle. The winner of Friday's contest will go on to compete against deejays from around the country at the Import Revolution car show the next day and will also advance to the finals of NSK's "Checkmate" competition in June.

Those lined up to throw down on wax at Grumpy's include A2Z, Colossus, Ekot La Mesa, Idea, Mad, Mana and Turbulence. DJs Blam, Compose, Delve, EQ and Mixed Flavors will keep things going after the contest is over. $7 gets you in at this 18-and-over party; cover is just $5 if you're over 21. ...
