Two boxing icons, a world champion surfer and one of the state's most prominent running figures comprise the 2003 class of the Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame.

Jesus Salud, Bobby Lee, Derek Ho and Dr. Jack Scaff are scheduled to be inducted Feb. 4 at the Honolulu Country Club. They were selected from a group of finalists Sunday.

>> Salud is 63-12 lifetime as a professional boxer and a former world champion.

He won the World Boxing Association junior featherweight crown Dec. 11, 1989 when Juan Jose Estrada was disqualified in the ninth round.

Salud later lost five other world-title fights.

He began his career going 20-0 with 11 knockouts in the mid-1980s, a rare star among bleak boxing times in Hawaii.

Salud moved to San Diego because of the dearth of good cards in the islands.

"He upheld boxing in Hawaii in his time, even though he had to go away to do it," Lee said. "The people of Hawaii can be proud of his accomplishments and I'm proud to be going into the Hall of Fame with him."

>> Lee has been involved in boxing as an administrator for nearly 60 years.

He was elected president of the World Boxing Association in 1972.

>> Scaff is known as the "Father of the Honolulu Marathon." The University of Hawaii cardiologist helped build the fledgling event into one of the world's largest marathons.

With his work as a founding member of the Honolulu Marathon Clinic, Scaff helped thousands of runners new to the sport learn how to successfully complete a 26.2-mile run.

>> Ho is one of three surfers from Hawaii to win the world championship. He took the title in 1993.

Ho is also a four-time Triple Crown of Surfing winner, achieving that on the North Shore in 1984, '86, '88 and '90.

He also counts the 1986 and 1993 Pipeline Masters championships among his accomplishments.

The Hawaii Sports Hall of Fame and Cybermuseum inducted its first class in 1999.

Inductees are world champions, Olympic gold medalists or pioneers or major long-time contributors to their sport.

The Hall of Fame also has a display at the Honolulu International Airport.
