The board approved the new posts Thursday as part of an administrative reorganization of the UH system.

Jobs to be filled with negotiated salaries include a chief of staff, with a range from $184,999 to $325,000; vice president for research, from $253,881 to $234,000; vice president for student affairs, $146,200 to $175,000 and vice president for international education, from $64,293 to $139,154.

Rolf-Peter Kudritzki was named UH-Manoa interim vice chancellor for research and graduate education. He now earns $225,264 a year as Institute for Astronomy director. He will continue in that role and receive an additional $2,000 a month, a UH spokesperson said.

Carolyn Tanaka, vice president for public affairs for McNeil Wilson Communications Inc., has been appointed as UH associate vice president for external affairs and university relations at a salary of $115,008 annually.

Sam Callejo, who was Gov. Ben Cayetano's chief of staff, was appointed last month to run the UH construction program for $160,000 a year.

Under the current salary structure, UH President Evan Dobelle is the top earner at $442,008 a year, followed by Dr. Edwin Cadman, dean of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, at $345,720 a year.

Football coach June Jones' salary hasn't been disclosed but he's reported to earn more than Dobelle.
