Retreat to Kauai

Kilauea Lakeside Estate on Kauai is offering a Winter Giveaway Package that provides two complimentary nights when five consecutive nights are booked at the rate of $495 per night. The package, available through March 31, includes a Kauai gift package of fruits, flowers and local products, and use of the resort's kayaks, fishing boats, three-par golf hole and putting green. Spa services may be arranged for an additional fee.

The property is set on five acres surrounded by a 20-acre freshwater lake teeming with bass and catfish. It features a private white sand beach, 150 varieties of flowers including orchids, bromeliads and gingers, plus more than 50 kinds of fruit trees including bananas, coconuts and papayas.

The three-bedroom, three-bath main building accommodates six and features a kitchen, lanai, TV, stereo, VCR, CD player and soaking tub.

Nearby attractions include Kilauea Lighthouse, Na Aina Kai Botanical Gardens and 10 miles of secluded beaches.

New look at Turtle Bay

Kamaaina can enjoy Oahu's new Turtle Bay Experience at an introductory rate of $199 per night through Dec. 24. The rate includes a $60 credit, for each night booked, that can be redeemed at any of the following resort facilities:

>> Dining at the Euro-Asian-themed 21° North or the casual Palm Terrace.

>> Tee times at the championship Arnold Palmer or George Fazio golf courses.

>> Treatments at the new Spa at Turtle Bay.

>> Horseback riding.

>> Activities at the Peter Burwash International-managed tennis facility.

Turtle Bay recently unveiled nearly $50 million in renovation work including the new Spa and Fitness Center. The 880-acre property also offers five miles of beachfront, 36 holes of championship golf and ocean trails for horse riding or hiking.

While there, take a few lessons from North Shore surfers at the Hans Hedemann Surf School providing equipment and instruction for all levels of surfing. Kayaking and snorkeling lessons are also available.

Pleasant additions

Pleasant Holidays has added two economy properties -- the Ohana Reef Lanai, on Oahu, and the Pono Kai Resort, on Kauai -- to its roster of hotels for 2003.

The Reef Lanai in Waikiki, steps from the beach and Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center, is a boutique hotel offering European style rooms with a park or ocean view. A complimentary continental breakfast is served from 7 to 9 a.m.

The Pono Kai Resort, a beachfront property on Kauai's eastern shore, is set amidst 15 acres of lush tropical gardens. Ideal for families, the Pono Kai offers nightly and weekly rates in one- and two-bedroom condominium suites featuring fully equipped kitchens. Up to four people may occupy the one-bedroom suites, while the two-bedroom suites can accommodate up to six.

Four-night, land-only holidays at the Ohana Reef Lanai start at $262 per person, double occupancy, for travel between Jan. 1 and 31, and March 1 to Dec. 21, 2003. Four-night, land-only holidays at the Pono Kai start at $299.
