Student from Hawaii
dies in Washington

Associated Press

TACOMA, Wash. >> A University of Washington student fatally shot on Thanksgiving has been identified as Kimberly Riley, 19, of Hawaii.

Riley and a 5-year-old boy were fatally wounded when an unknown gunman fired into a home. Two others survived their gunshot wounds.

The gunman stood on the front lawn and opened fire at close range into a crowd inside the home, according to neighbors, who said they heard about eight gunshots.

Police had no description of the suspect or possible motive.

At least three generations of one family lived in the split-level home, neighbors said.

The Pierce County medical examiner identified the other victim as Jeremy Vayiathaong, 5. The boy died at a hospital Thursday night and Riley died early Friday. Harmony Spencer, 20, suffered a gunshot to the abdomen, and her brother Jeff Spencer, 22, was shot in the leg. Both were recovering at Tacoma General Hospital.
